We met Roonnee in a quiet village in Sakon Nakhon, the northeastern province of Thailand. She was dyeing cotton yarn that she had just made using color extracted from trees in her garden, a method she was experimenting with for the first time. “I’m wondering what this could be”, she told us with a smile and an enthusiastic look in her eyes. With that motivation, PREM’s first collaboration was born.
Roonnee and a small group of artisans in her village have been making handwoven cotton fabric for generations. The entire process is done by hand, from gathering the cotton that grows in the village and spinning and weaving the yarns to the 100% natural dyeing techniques. Roonnee’s traditional fabrics are comfortable to use in every season and become softer over time. A portion of the profits from our inaugural collaboration will support Roonee’s mission, helping her to continue developing cotton, grow her business and pass the knowledge onto younger generations.
